Auxiliary
MISSION STATEMENT: The Auxiliary assists Regional Health Services of Howard County with its mission to promote, preserve, and protect the health of the residents of Howard County and surrounding areas.
Escorts: Act as guides for patients and visitors who need help getting around the hospital, getting charts for the emergency room nurse, assisting patients back to the clinic or into their cars.
Pink Ladies: Some of the same duties as the Escorts. They also do the Teleconcern, which is calling shut-ins daily to check on them and just to “chat” for a few minutes. They also help with the cataract surgery patients once a month and help out around the hospital wherever needed, whenever needed.
Arts & Crafts: This group meets once a month and makes different items for the patient trays or rooms, especially seasonal items.
Major Fund Raisers
We give two $750 scholarships each year: one to a high school graduate, and one to a non-traditional student pursuing a career in some field of medicine. Funds are raised through coffees hosted by members either in their home or at the hospital, or wherever they choose.
We give book packages to new parents, informational for them and something for the baby. Funds for this comes from Books Are Fun sales that are held twice a year in the Hospital Laura Rose Lobby.
In March each year we host an Omelet Breakfast. The proceeds go for a specific piece of equipment, which we pick from a “wish list” submitted by the various departments in the hospital.
In July we host a four person Best Shot Golf Tournament, and again the proceeds purchase an item from the “wish list”.
The Annual Hospital Auxiliary Quilt Auction is held late summer. The Quilt Auction has raised approximately $400,000 since it began in 1977, and has helped support the purchase of items such as cardiac equipment, surgical tables, fetal heart monitors, portable x-ray equipment and many other equipment needs at Regional Health Services.
The LoveLight Tree is displayed in the main corridor of the hospital in November, December and January. LoveLight ornaments may be purchased as a memorial for a loved one, in honor of the birth of a baby, or to thank someone such as a neighbor, special friend, or teacher, or possibly another special event. Proceeds from this event are used to purchase items from the “wish list”.
The Annual Hospital Auxiliary Holiday Cookie & Candy Sale is held in December. Proceeds from this event are used to purchase items from the “wish list”.
Auxiliary meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month (no meeting in January) at 1:30 pm in the Laura Rose Lobby of the Hospital. Everyone is welcome! Membership dues are $3 a year.
