Janis is married to Jim Wolfe, and they have two children: Ben and Elizabeth. Ben is a junior at the University of Northern Iowa, and Elizabeth is a junior at Buena Vista University. Jim works with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service. Spending time with family and friends, reading, oil painting, camping, word games, walks in the woods, and listening to music are some of Janis’ favorite pursuits. Volunteering for the Domestic and Sexual Abuse Resource Center, involvement with Special Needs Association (current President), and mentoring an elementary school student also fulfill a need to be of service. Janis Rockabrand has been a family practice physician assistant since graduating in 1978 from UW-Madison. Clinic-based family practice is a good niche for her because she enjoys the variety and the challenges. During the week, Janis makes patient visits to area nursing homes. Janis sees patients at the Cresco Medical Clinic as early as 7:30 am during the week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Janis Rockabrand, PA-c, was born in Oconto, Wisconsin (aka Packer
Country), on the shores of the Green Bay. After graduating from
the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science
degree in microbiology, she worked for two years in bacteriology
at the Mayo Clinic and then spent two years with the Peace Corps
in the Philippines. Back from her stint overseas, Janis returned
to school and obtained her B.S. degree from the Physician Assistant
Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In August of 1981,
she began working at what was then the Cresco Medical Center, thinking
it would be a temporary job until she could find employment in
Prairie du Chien where her husband worked. Almost twenty-two years
later, Janis and her family are very happy that life unexpectedly
brought them to Cresco, Iowa.
