Regional Health Services of Howard County (RHSHC) is a unique
consortium of health care services provided to Howard County residents
and its neighboring communities.
On July 1, 1997, Howard County Hospital and Howard County Public
Health Nursing merged to form a single new entity, Regional Health
Services of Howard County. The Howard Residential Care Facility/Patty
Elwood Center contributes to the continuum of health care through
a management contract with RHSHC, providing modern and home-like
facilities for residential care and licensed memory care (dementia).
On November 1, 2002, a partnership was formed between the two
local clinics and RHSHC, forming a Physician Hospital Organization.
The Lime Springs and Cresco Medical Clinics are now departments
of RHSHC.
As a result of these efforts, RHSHC offers six key service areas:
RHSHC is Howard County’s fourth largest employer, with more
than 200 employees. In health care services, that makes RHSHC an
attractive place to work. Employees have the ability to transfer
among the facilities, without losing seniority, as jobs open up.
Patients benefit from having their services coordinated among the
facilities, and numerous key health care services are provided
locally.
Regional Health Services provides state-of-the-art availability
of dementia care, Hospice, public health, disaster planning, as
well as key hospital services. A new mammography unit was recently
installed, and a new 16-slice CT scanner is being purchased. We
are fortunate to be able to provide general surgery options, as
well as obstetrical care, skilled nursing care, and Wellness Laboratory
Testing. Physical Therapy provides a complete range of therapies,
including cardiac rehabilitation, occupational therapy and lymphadema
treatment. We also provide Home Medical Equipment services, which
stocks almost every needed device or product for the home.
As a partner with Mercy
Medical Center - North Iowa, we are able
to provide a complete continuum of care in the Northeast Iowa area.
