West Nile Virus*
     
Once again, during our warm summer season, it is time to prepare ourselves with current information regarding West Nile Virus (WNV). In 2002, human or animal WNV infection occurred in 44 of the United States. The Centers for Disease Control reported 4,161 cases resulting in 277 deaths . W NV is transmitted between susceptible hosts by blood-feeding mosquitoes. Birds and mammals can become infected when an infected mosquito bites them to take a blood meal. WNV cannot be spread from one human to another by casual contact. Read more...

Melany and Chris Orr moved to Cresco in 2001 from Baxter, Iowa. They have two daughters, Maris, who is eight years old, and baby Madaline, born on March 11, 2003, at Regional Health Services of Howard County (RHSHC), Cresco, Iowa.
