For Seniors
Baking Our Way to Health
What do 600 dozen cookies and plates of candy have to do with a full body workout? Just ask Regional Health Services Hospital Auxiliary members and Senior Wellness Coordiantor, Pam Cobbs, and they will show you a room full of answers.

While attending a Senior Fitness Fair, Pam saw a Continuing Fitness Resistance Chair and an idea was born. Why not try and raise money for the purchase of these chairs for use by the Senior Exercise Program at the Hospital, as well as for those patients in need of developing muscle strength and enhanced cardiovascular health.
Holiday Cookie and Candy Sale Co-Chairs, Carol Burnikel and Marlene Cummings, took on the project. The members of the Hospital Auxiliary baked cookies (including many ethnic specialties) and made homemade candies, which were sold by the pound. Eighteen chairs were purchased with the proceeds from the event.
The resistance chair exercise system allows you to do a full body workout from a safe, comfortable, seated position. Because you remain seated, you maintain balance and stability as you exercise your arms, chest, shoulders, abdomen, back, and legs. The resistance cables offer a wide range of upper body and lower body exercises and provide low-impact resistance without the use of heavy weights. The exercise program helps mature adults maintain mobility and energy, increases muscle and joint strength, build endurance, and improve flexibility and balance.
